Battlefield Studios has laid out the Battlefield 6 Season 5 roadmap through the end of 2026, and the schedule is packed. A European Casino map, the long-awaited Server Browser, the first version of Platoons and a new round of weapon balance changes are all planned, along with answers to some of the community’s most pressing questions.
Battlefield 6 Season 5 Roadmap: Phase by Phase
Season 5 is rolling out in three phases, with a longer-term look ahead to 2027.
- Phase 1 (October 20): The Battlefield x Dead Space: Convergence Event is live and runs until November 10.
- Phase 2 (November 10): The European Casino map, Multiplayer Leaderboards and balance changes arrive.
- Phase 3 (December 8): The Server Browser and Platoons launch, alongside updated Blackwell Fields and New Sobek City maps.
- 2027: Season 6 and ongoing live-service support, including balance passes. The team plans to share details about what comes next early in the new year.
Season 5 has already brought two new maps, Vegas Strip and Area 51, so the team is now focusing on the next wave of content.
European Casino Map and Blackwell Fields and New Sobek City Updates
The next battlefield in Phase 2 is a close-quarters map set inside a European Casino. The studio says more details about the map, and about a Casino Heist event that arrives at the same time, will follow closer to release.
Beyond the new casino setting, the team is refining existing maps. The Phase 3 updates to Blackwell Fields and New Sobek City focus on giving players more ways to move around each battlefield. Changes include more separation between HQs, extra gameplay space along map boundaries to support flanking, additional terrain breaks, and more routes to rooftops and objectives.
How the Server Browser Will Work Alongside Matchmaking
The Server Browser launches side by side with the existing matchmaking system. It will feature persistent lobbies, which means players can stay together from one match to the next on the server they choose.
If you matchmake through playlists or Custom Search, you may be placed into official player-hosted servers listed in the browser, though you can move to a different server between matches depending on your map and mode preferences.
For easy access, the Server Browser will sit as the first tile in the Quickplay menu for Battlefield 6 owners. In Portal, there will be a Verified Experiences tile and a second Custom Server Browser tile for user-created experiences. A dedicated blog post with a closer look at the implementation is due in the coming weeks.
Platoons: What to Expect at Launch
Platoons arrive in Phase 3 as planned. The launch version supports up to 100 players and includes custom group names and squad tags. It gets its own tab in the main menu, where players can create or join a Platoon, set up their identity and track the group’s combined stats.
Players also earn an XP bonus when they play in a squad with fellow Platoon members. The team describes this release as a foundation, with community and social tools to be expanded based on how players use the feature. More information is expected closer to December.
Balance Changes: Vehicles, SCW-10 and KV9
Vehicle balance changes arrived with the first Season 5 update, patch 2.1.1.0. The team is now reviewing live data and player feedback, and says it wants a measured approach so it does not make knee-jerk adjustments to armor or helicopter dynamics.
On the infantry side, the studio has looked at nerfing the extended magazines on the SCW-10 and KV9 and buffing several underused attachments across many weapons. These changes are being finalised for Phase 2, and exact details will be shared in the Community Update and Update Notes. Gunplay tweaks made for REDSEC ahead of the Elite Series will also be followed by broader adjustments in Phase 2 that affect both traditional multiplayer and REDSEC.
Highlights from the Discord Q&A
Developers from across Battlefield Studios answered 42 questions during a 60-minute live session on the official Battlefield Discord. A few highlights:
- Limited-time modes: Carrier Strike and Gauntlet Fighter Sweep are wanted back in future seasons, but nothing has been announced.
- Spectator mode: Coverage will expand to more modes, starting with the Elite Series in Season 5.
- Two-seater jets: Adding them to more maps is under investigation, pending technical performance and balance work.
- Proximity Chat: The feature is coming to Rapid Royale after its first run in Battle Royale Ranked, and the team remains committed to bringing it to multiplayer.
- Commander Mode: There are no official plans for it at this time.
- Portal connection bug: The issue has persisted for a couple of releases, and the team is still working to find clear reproduction steps.
- Bolt-action snipers: The team is exploring ways to make snipers easier to counter, including increased sway, more dispersion, or actual aim deviation when hit, and will test the options.
- Support Pouch: It is part of a full gadget review, though no timeline has been shared.
- REDSEC Ranked: Matchmaking in APAC and South America remains a challenge, and the team is testing changes.
- Season 5 launch feedback: Asked about criticism of the launch patch, the devs say they will adjust their process and reprioritise plans around the issues players have identified. The question itself raised cosmetics as one concern.
