Rainbow Six Siege Y11S4: Map Pool, Testing Grounds, Hostage

Rainbow Six Siege’s Year 11 is heading into its final season, and the latest Community Checkpoint lays out what Rainbow Six Siege Y11S4 will bring while also recapping the mid-season changes. The biggest shift is that seasonal Ranked map rotations are ending, with the developers returning to a “best of” pool. Alongside that come a Half Reinforcements Testing Grounds, Hostage and Secure Area returning to Quick Match, a 3v3 Arcade comeback, and a recap of the balance changes from the Operation Split Fire mid-season update.

Ranked Map Pool Ends Seasonal Rotations

Starting next season, Ranked will no longer rotate its map pool each season. The developers said most players didn’t view rotations as meaningful new content, and swapping out a favorite map for one people enjoyed less often caused frustration. Instead, each Ranked season will feature a stable pool of roughly 15 maps, including the nine maps currently played in Pro competition. The goal is a more consistent competitive experience where players can master a reliable set of maps.

Testing Grounds: Half Reinforcements and Hostage Rework

A new Testing Grounds arrives in Y11S4 featuring Half Reinforcements, which open up new possibilities for defensive setups, site construction, and team strategy. Testing Grounds is a limited-time event that lets developers try ideas without affecting live matches. Players who try it can use the in-game QR code to take the survey and help refine the feature before it reaches the main game.

The next Testing Grounds after that will feature a reworked Hostage mode, shaped by feedback from players and content creators.

Hostage and Secure Area Return to Quick Match

Starting in Y11S4, Hostage and Secure Area will return to Quick Match as part of the regular playlist rotation. The developers want to see how players engage with these modes and build a stronger foundation for their future. There is also a long-term plan to bring Hostage back into competitive play after its Testing Grounds session, depending on the feedback it receives. No concrete plans have been set yet.

Operator Balancing and Patch Changes

The Operation Split Fire mid-season update brought several balance changes (for the full details, see our Y11S3 mid-season patch notes and the designer’s notes):

  • Noor: Horus Lance Launcher drilling time reduced to 1.5s (from 2s) on soft surfaces, ballistic shields, and hard surfaces; Guardbreak strength against ballistic shield Operators raised to 100% (from 30%); equip time cut to 0.4s (from 0.9s); direct impact damage raised to 80 (from 50); it now damages ballistic shield Operators during the shield removal animation; general hitbox improvements.
  • Tachanka: Shumika Launcher gains a switch between Impact Mode (default) and Bounce Mode, where projectiles pass through fragile objects like glass or paper.
  • Snake: Soliton Radar MK III precision charges reduced to three (from four).
  • Valkyrie: Glaive-12 added as a Secondary Weapon.
  • Capitao: Delay between fire expansions reduced to 0.9 seconds (from 1 second).
  • Clash: Slowdown strength when running away from her increased to 10% (from 5%).
  • OSA: Deployment restrictions reduced, with frontal space at 0.25m (from 1.1), vertical space at 0.6m (from 6.25), and space behind the player at 0.005m (from 0.3).
  • Fire: Damage increased to 14HP (from 12), affecting Tachanka, Goyo, Capitao, Dokkaebi, Noor, and Gas Pipes.
  • Barbed Wire: Now completely stops the BU-GI OF RAM.

A TCSG nerf is coming in Y11S4 following player feedback. The 3.3 update will also bring minor tweaks to Denari, Jackal, and the Commando. It will be the last update of its kind, since future .1 and .3 patches will ship fewer but more impactful changes, while season launch and mid-season patches remain larger. The developers are also prototyping changes for Mira and Zofia, but no balance updates are planned yet.

Legend Division and 3v3 Arcade Update

The Legend Division, a permanent solo queue playlist for Champion-ranked players, launched with the mid-season update and currently leans toward a more competitive ruleset than Ranked. To participate, players need a R6 Shieldguard Secure Platform, Secure Boot, and 2-Step Account Verification, along with Champion rank, Clearance Level 200 or higher, Platinum or above in the previous season, and Reputation Standing level three or higher. The developers will monitor community feedback as the playlist evolves.

The limited-time 3v3 Arcade mode from Operation Split Fire, which offered shorter, faster matches built around three-pronged attacks and triangular defense, was one of the most successful limited-time modes in Siege’s history. It returns in Y11S4.

Rainbow Six Siege is available on PlayStation, Xbox, and PC via the Ubisoft Store, Steam, and the Epic Games Store, and can also be played with a Ubisoft+ subscription.
