Age of Empires server maintenance is coming this Thursday, October 8, as the platform team takes the multiplayer servers down for routine updates. The maintenance covers all four Age of Empires games across Steam, Microsoft Store, Xbox and PlayStation 5, with estimated downtime of 1-2 hours.
When the Maintenance Happens
The matchmaking servers will go offline on Thursday, October 8 at 2:00pm PT / 5:00pm ET / 21:00 UTC. Ranked matchmaking will be disabled exactly one hour earlier, at 1:00pm PT / 4:00pm ET / 20:00 UTC, to prevent disruption to newly formed matches.
Which Games and Platforms Are Affected
Although the announcement was posted in the Age of Empires II feed, the maintenance impacts all four titles:
- Age of Empires: Definitive Edition (Steam, Microsoft Store)
- Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition (Steam, Microsoft Store, Xbox, PlayStation 5)
- Age of Empires III: Definitive Edition (Steam, Microsoft Store)
- Age of Empires IV (Steam, Microsoft Store, Xbox, PlayStation 5)
What You Can and Can’t Do During Downtime
During the maintenance window you will still be able to launch the game, but you will not be able to matchmake or access any online features.
How to Avoid Disrupted Matches
Any match still in progress when the window begins will be disrupted. The team recommends wrapping up games at least 10 minutes beforehand, meaning by 1:50pm PT / 4:50pm ET / 20:50 UTC.
Where to Find Updates
The official announcement thread will carry any schedule changes as they arise, along with the all-clear once maintenance is complete.
