Valve has released the Dota 2 Trove of Terror, a horror-themed treasure chest packed with cosmetic content, including a brand-new Tidehunter Arcana, a returning Drow Ranger Arcana, and fifteen eldritch-inspired item sets. According to Valve’s Steam announcement, the treasure is available now.
What Is the Dota 2 Trove of Terror?
The Trove of Terror is a treasure chest filled with item sets themed around eldritch and otherworldly designs. The collection numbers fifteen item sets, alongside two Arcanas: one new and one returning.
Opening enough treasures also unlocks new appearances for the Tormentor and Roshan. The announcement does not give pricing, drop rates or exact unlock thresholds.
Maw of the Megalodon: The New Tidehunter Arcana
The centerpiece is the Maw of the Megalodon Arcana for Tidehunter. It arrives with a new model, custom animations, effects, taunts and voice lines. Tidehunter also drags a familiar-looking corpse that serves as one part security blanket and one part snack.
Valve’s teaser hints that mastering the Arcana’s secrets would unlock all three of its shark-toothed designs. The announcement does not explain how those designs are unlocked.
Drow Ranger’s Returning Arcana
A Drow Ranger Arcana described as long thought lost to time is back. She can look as she once did or take on a new grave-stalking form.
Fifteen Eldritch Item Sets
Beyond the two Arcanas, the Trove contains fifteen item sets built around eldritch and otherworldly themes, in keeping with its horror aesthetic.
New Tormentor and Roshan Designs
Open enough treasures and you’re guaranteed a new look for the all-seeing Tormentor. Open a number more and you’ll get an incomprehensible new design for Roshan. The announcement does not say how many treasures each reward requires.
